Best Kept Secret in Newport

I have stayed at the Burbank Rose several times and its always been a great experience. The location is within easy walking distance to Bowen Wharf and Thames Street. The rooms are spacious and comfortable but not necessarily deluxe accommodations. The staff is very friendly and the morning coffee and scones are just enough to get your day started.

Original building with as much as possible left as it was.

Owner is as affable and helpful as you could ask for. Light breakfast treats were nice: wonderful berries and mini-scones. Location is central and excellent for wandering through town and enjoying the restaurants, shops, and sights. Original building has as much charm as possible left intact. Third floor is a bit of a balance test when hitting the bathroom in the dark, as time has held sway with the floor (it's entirely sturdy - just changes pitch a bit as you traverse it, as happens in old buildings). Our bed also had a pitch to it, but to be fair, we didn't notice it in other beds that we saw. You can unload there briefly, but parking is about a football field away, in town.

Good location but room was a little strange

The location is central and the best thing about the place. Room didn't have AC so it was extremely hot and stuffy during our September night stay. The room was clean and you could tell they had tried to make it comfortable, but the bathroom was tiny with only 2 towels and one hand towel. When we tried to find someone to get more we couldn't locate anyone. There was a sort of run down kitchenette as part of the room. Had a Keurig but was out of coffee. Generally I'd much rather have a bigger room and not the strange kitchen area.

Location, Location

Right near the intersection of Memorial Blvd. and Thames. Walking distance to everywhere. Must pay for parking. Large secured lot about a city block away.24 hr. coffee. Fresh fruit and scones in the morning. We had a second floor room facing the main street. Not good for light sleepers. We slept with the air conditioning on.
Beds were not the most comfortable. Still a good deal for the price.

The furniture is older than you

The BurbankRose B&B: Brian was an excellent host - very helpful and knowledgeable. he advised us on several good bars / restaurants. Definitely do the extended Trolley Tour of the Vanderbilts Marble and Breakers Homes.
The B&B is quirky and quaint. It is an old wooden board building in keeping with the rest of Newport. You are within 50 yards of the church where John and Jackie Kennedy were married. You can sit outside with a glass of wine and watch the tourists pass by. The floors are uneven and slope, and the en-suite is vey small. 4 stars, only because there is poor storage space in the en-suite.

Great location

We stayed in the Blue Room/suite. I was impressed with the size of our suite, we had a bedroom and in the living room were two twin beds for our kids and a full kitchen/dinette area and bathroom. It was everything we needed and the location couldn't be better for walking around to get the feel of Newport. We stayed one night, which was perfect, it's not a luxury inn, but really nice to get an authentic feel of a beautiful old house. The floors are sloping which has its charms, the stairways are very narrow (so lugging large suitcases is not great, but doable). My main complaint was that for a "bed and breakfast" there was no real breakfast. There was a very nice platter of fresh berries and mini scones, coffee/juice and cereal, but not enough to really fill up and be ready for the day. Also, I would suggest a few pictures on the wall of the blue room wouldn't hurt :). The place was clean, pretty and in a good location, but a few more attention to details would kick it up a notch. I do recommend this suite for families though mainly bc of the size of the space, the layout and the location. There are plenty of places to walk to for breakfast too.

An annual tradition..... I stay here EVERY time I come to Newport

A beautiful place to stay....GREAT location on Memorial Drive... walking distance to the Wharfs... many quaint shops and fantastic restaurants. Brian Cole (Innkeeper - owner) has done some renovations and the place is better than ever... spacious rooms... we always take the room with the newly renovated kitchen and bathroom ... living room - separate bedroom.. Very spacious.
I highly recommend this place... Brian is a wealth of info on local sites and things to do. This place fills up quickly,... so plan in advance.

Burbank Rose 1850 Style

Newport, Rhode Island was our destination, but only to drive through. With some changes to our itinerary during the middle of our eight week cross country motorcycle adventure my wife made reservations at the 'Burbank Rose'. We found the house to be wonderful find. Yes, it creeks ... I'm starting to as well, and she has a few years on me :) But it was quite a charming and historical place to stay for two days. The location is fantastic and Brian was very helpful. The breakfast was not a traditional 'B n B' style, rather fresh fruit and pastries along with coffee or tea. Our room, the 'Blue Room' on the second floor was very comfortable and clean. Our riding partners were downstairs and enjoyed their room and stay as well. I would surely return if in the Newport area again. Thanks Brian! And thanks as well for the restaurant direction. Enjoyed everything about Newport!
